Ebenezer Baptist Church Leadership
Ebenezer Baptist Church is blessed to have an anointed leader who has truly dedicated his life and ministry to the Lord Jesus Christ and accomplishing His will. Following is a brief bio of our senior pastor and his qualifications for ministry in the body of Christ and the kingdom of God.
Dr. LeRoy Hill, Jr.
Dr. LeRoy Hill, Jr. is a resident Suffolk, VA. He is currently serving as the Senior Pastor of the historic Ebenezer Baptist Church, Portsmouth, Virginia. Dr. Hill was born in Amarillo, Texas and raised in Compton, California, as well as in Oklahoma City and Midwest City, Oklahoma. He graduated from Douglass High School, OKC and Langston University, Langston, Oklahoma.
Dr. Hill has a love for preaching the gospel, teaching kingdom principles that transforms lives and training leaders in radical discipleship with the Word of God. Because of that conviction, he has prepared himself by matriculating in various citadels of theological training. He attained a Master of Divinity, with Biblical Languages degree from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas in 1991. He received a Doctorate in Ministry degree, with an emphasis on Evangelizing and Discipling African American Males, from Virginia University of Lynchburg, Virginia on May 2, 2015. On August 24, 2017, He completed his second doctorate degree in Spiritual Leadership and Renewal, with a concentration in Community Transformation, from Regent University School of Divinity, in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Since then, his wife affectionately calls him “Dr. Deuce.”
Dr. Hill currently teaches Homiletics and the Old Testament Survey courses, and serves on the board of directors at the Angelos Bible College, in Portsmouth, VA. Dr. Hill believes that biblical education and training is so vitally important for all pastors and teachers of the Word of God.
From October 2006 to October 2008, Dr. Hill served as a missionary in Guyana, South America, Kingston, Jamaica, Pretoria and Mabopane, South Africa, through the Lott Carey Baptist Foreign Missions Convention’s PEP (Pastoral Excellence Program). He has a passion for serving God’s people through preaching and teaching the gospel of the kingdom, and equipping the saints for kingdom ministry. Dr. Hill is very passionate about Evangelism, Discipleship and Missions. He does this through the local church, conventions and clergy organizations.
Dr. Hill was appointed in June 2015, to the position of Southeast Regional Evangelism Coordinator of the National Baptist Convention, USA (serving five states in the Southeast region of America). He was recently appointed to serve as the Chairman of the Board of Evangelism for the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. in December 2019.
Dr. Hill also has a passion to advance the kingdom of God through community service, by serving the American Cancer Society in various ways. He was chair and co-chair of the African American Men's Health Leadership Council and the African American Men's Health Forum serving as many as 600 men in the Hampton Roads community. He recently served on the board for PVH (Portsmouth Volunteers for the Homeless) and was the Vice President.
Lastly, Dr. Hill enjoys serving as a “church health” coach and consultant. Dr. Hill continues his efforts toward bringing the kingdom of God to the forefront in all areas of life through preaching the gospel, facilitating various seminars and workshops, and cultivating community development strategies for the glory of God and the good of all people. Dr. Hill is available for church health seminars, leadership training, workshops on spiritual renewal and Great Commission strategies for all people.
He is married to the best blessing of his life, Chanda Braxton Hill. He has four children and six grandchildren. His greatest joy, second to his salvation, is spending quality time with his wife and family and living the Kingdom life to the fullest.
